Beer for Chicks

Delightfully stolen forum topic, but its a fun one so lets extend it. Was there a moment where you knew you were a beer geek? Anything all beer geeks have in common?

To start with, a few I've thought up.

You know you're a beer geek when...

...you look at the beer list in a place renowned for their choices and you've had almost all of them
...you drive to other towns, cities or states to get the beer that you love, or to get to your favorite beverage center
....you're considering buying another fridge
....you look at wine cellaring cabinets and wonder if they'd work with beer if you laid them sideways
...your friends call you to ask you what the best beer is to go with a certain food
....the local beer store owner knows you on a first name basis

That's all I can think of for now, but lets make a list!

...when your friends go on trips, you make them bring back beer for you in their suitcases.

I am working this angle right now with some coworkers traveling on business trips (they are friends too, or I wouldn't have asked). The results have been mixed so far, but it's worth it to see what they come up with beyond the wish list.

That's a good one. how about...

... whenever you travel, you can't leave wherever you are without buying local beer to try at home. (I've come home with back seats full of beer!)

this is, in fact, one of my favorite parts of a road trip:)

...you bring fancy 750ml bottles of craft beer to every friend's party and find yourself giving impromptu 'beerschool' to all the guests

....you know the taste of good beer so well, that you have enough confidence to take bad beer back to the bar
....you cant drink anything until you know its ABV, method of dispense, brewery of origin and pedigree

....your friends include in their evites to you that there will be good beer at the event
....you put a kegerator and a chest freezer on your wedding registry ( a girls gotta have a place to lager!)
....you celebrate your engagement with a couple westvletren and plan on going on a beer tour of Belgium for your honeymoon.
....after an earthquake the first thing you check is if the beer shelves are ok.

ha ha to the earthquake comment Nat.
How about...you drive 6.5 hours just to drink at different beer bar on your birthday?
Geeky!

When you visit your sister in Duluth, MN you drive over to Superior, WI to load up on microbrew you can only get in WI.
When you go "oooh!" upon seeing the beer menu at a restaurant.
When you're excited that there IS a beer menu at a restaurant.

You attend weekly "wine meetings" and ALWAYS order beer. They even change the venue to accommodate your needs.

You drive two hours (one way) out of the way on a business trip to tour your favorite brewery and dine at their restaurant.

I knew I was a beer geek when at a IT Conference someone asked me about my thoughts on ESB and I reeled off several Extra Special Bitters that I had tried, what I liked and what I didn't before I realized the guy was talking about Enterprise Service Bus technology - Ugh!! I am an all around geek! :)
