Beer for Chicks

I'm new to Beer for Chicks, but even newer to homebrewing. And I'd love to hear your stories about how your first experiences panned out. Successful, disastrous or encouraging, please do share your anecdotes!

I'll start by sharing what I did in preparation. I assisted friends in their homebrewing (mainly as a taster!) and accompanying them to the homebrew store in town. I also read all the "key" books to get a better sense of the process, but also read "Fermenting Revolution," which gave an interesting history of beer and brewing as a female-led, homespun industry. After reading and preparing (both mentally and in buying all the tools), I decided to join my boyfriend in our first joint homebrew this coming weekend. Whatever the outcome, I'm glad I'm embarking on this beer journey. I'm sure it'll help my appreciation for beer of all sorts grow even more.

Please do share your favorite first memories if you have any!

If you liked homebrewing, I highly recommend reading John Palmer's "How to Brew" and Jamil Zainasheff's "Brewing Classic Styles".

Welcome to home brewing! :)

Also, and seriously, "Homebrewing for Dummies" is awesome. I used it in conjunction with other books when they would forget to explain something.

My husband and I started homebrewing a few months ago and we started off with a pale sle that has four different hops kinds. It was the best pale ale and I just loved that our work had created it. Unfortunately we tried a hefeweizen next and it dint turn out so good. Not sure if because when we bottled it and then added the sugar if it delayed the fermenting process. Since then we've started kegging our homebrew and it is amazing! Fun fun. Congrats and have fun on your homebrew experiances!
